I Left My Closet in San Francisco
Contrary to the popular belief, I have not been pub crawling all this time, but rather spending my days wandering around such nicely air conditioned establishments as Bed Bath and Beyond, Marshalls and The Container Store and realizing just how lucky I was back home to (a) have a vehicle to transport my purchased items back to my dwellings and (b) have enough room in those dwellings to contain all of my treasured clothing possessions. Gotta love long run-on sentences.
So, I have finally made it to the Big Apple. My red-eye flight was a nightmare. Actually, I would have settled for a nightmare had I been given the chance to sleep and not be startled every 10 minutes by the crying kid in front of me. I left San Francisco at 10pm and after having a mild heart attack that Delta would loose my bags (thankfully it was only a phobia) as well as signing my name on about 15 different as well as the same forms (I am not sure they ever heard of a copy machine) at the housing office, I was finally in my apartment by 11am the following day.
The plan was to unpack some of the bags while anxiously waiting for the bed to be delivered from 1-800-Mattress (this was to happen anytime between noon and 4 but I was pretty certain that by 2 I would be dreaming of martinis and shoes). Keep in mind that all I wanted to do was fall asleep for a few hours before heading out to a Happy Hour to meet some future classmates. At 3:51 I received a phone call from the bed company telling me the driver is running late and will be there at 4:30. Ten minutes after that deadline he finally showed up with my bed and had the audacity to ask if I had any tip for him. "Seriously? I don't think so." At this point I had no time to nap and after getting ready was on my way to the drink fest, the details of which are top secret.
My apartment is very cute (code word for small) but very cozy (code word for convenient). My room is actually bigger then expected and now that I have a bed and a nightstand in it (until I get my dresser from Walmart.com) it looks like it could fit a lot more stuff. The kitchen/living room/dining room area definitely leaves something to be desired, as do my closets. But I did get all this at an amazing bargain price so this will be the end of my complaining.
Less then two weeks till orientation!

that was interesting to hear. have fun settling down and do tell us about the orientation
Thanks for telling us about your apartment. I was waitlisted?! Waitlisted?!?! MAybe its because I live in Westchester, and they want to give the available apartments to people who are out of state or out of country. So now I won't get my private dorm room that I wanted, but I was told by UAH that I stand a great chance of getting a UAH apartment. So I was curious to hear what one was like. Are you in an unfurnished apartment? If so, why didn't you opt for a furnished one? Yea, the UAH prices are a huge bargain for Manhattan. My orientation isn't until the 29th. One of the perks is that the grad students get to go on a sunset cruise around Manhattan. It's gonna be flippin sweet!
